The Lives of Great Photographers (15th April-4th September 2011)
This exhibition was just a pleasure to go around. All of the great photographers that I have been lectured about, their work was there. It was a brilliant experience to be able to see some of this work in the flesh and to learn some more about each photographer. The time scale in which this exhibition worked around was also really interesting. It introduced us to the work of the pioneers of this art and displayed very early images which were just fascinating to look at. Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bill Brandt, Tony Ray-Jones are some of the photographers who's work is on show and they are all breathtaking to look at.
Churches: David Spero (15th April-4th September 2011)
David Spero documented building in London that were being used as churches. Non of them feature any religious architecture or gave the impression of being a place of worship. All of these images are so interesting, and they really get you thinking. They open your mind up to what you see and what that stands for (if that makes sense?). It's is very clever how he has allowed the viewer to get past the building and respect more than what you just see in each photograph. Overall this was a really inspiring exhibition and I really liked the images as a collection. They all just offer something different but yet, they are all the same.
IMAX: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II
Yes, we did go and see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II again, I am sorry it had to be done and the IMAX did not disappoint with this film. Having seen this film previously in our local cinema in 3D, if anything it made me more excited about seeing it at the IMAX cinema. There was just something about seeing this grand finally on a huge screen, it was perfect. The 3D experience of this film, I personally feel is more to do with the depth of field rather than having giant snakes throw themselves at you. Which we could imply complements the Harry Potter films better, because they all ready offer us impressive digital effects and an engaging narrative. Do we really want things jumping out at us and distracting us from this narrative? Well, I know my answer to this but each to their own I guess.
