Patterns and Textures

Over the holidays I have been collecting more 1940s props for my project.

Clothing was rationed during the war due to the expense that importing fabric and the factor that all money was supporting the war welfare.
The government introduced a new policy that the public were entitled to clothing coupons, 66 coupons per year. The number of coupon were cut from 66 to 20, we have to take into account that for a men suit it was 22 coupon and a ladies dress it was 11, these coupon were eaten up quickly. So the Government introduced the 'Make do and Mend' campaign. Posters, advertisement and other media productions all displayed the message of re-using old clothing and mending them.

The clothing is one of the key elements to my project. This element will help the audience with awareness of what era they are viewing.

I have ordered printing paper today. ILFORD FB warn tone glossy paper, 5x7. Taking the feedback from my classmates I have come to the conclusion that these prints need to be small to represent the era we are dealing with. They will be shot on black and white film then I will introduce a process onto the prints that will add a slight sepia tone onto the final image. I am to create 6 images and display them all on the same mount.
